In the year 1999, the barbering trade appeared to be on its last legs. Despite this, the determined founder of Layrite, Donnie Hawley, was still focused on perfecting his clients' haircuts. However, he found that the traditional petroleum-based products his clients used were causing obstacles in his technique, as they were difficult to rinse out. Donnie was dedicated to not limiting style, but was also committed to maintaining a high standard of barbering. So, he set out to find a solution. The result was a water-soluble pomade that was created to "Hold Like Wax and Wash Out Like Gel."

One of Donnie's clients remarked that his pomade was the only product that made his hair lay right, and thus the Layrite brand was born. Ever since, Layrite Men's Grooming Products have been at the forefront of traditional barbering and men's grooming. While many have tried to copy us, no one has been able to replicate our products, which have become the go-to brand for barbers around the world who seek quality and authenticity.
